Suspect Nabbed, ID Released For Woman Fatally Stabbed Near Long Island Restaurant

A suspect has been apprehended and the identity has been released of a woman who was fatally stabbed behind a Long Island restaurant.

Nassau County Police Fifth Precinct officers responded for a 911 call for a stabbing in the rear of La Candela Restaurant in West Hempstead located at 205 Hempstead Turnpike at around 12:05 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 29.

Upon arrival, officers located two victims: a 52-year-old woman who was stabbed multiple times and a 50-year-old man with a laceration to his hand. 

Both victims were transported to a nearby hospital for evaluation and treatment. The man was treated and released.

Just before 4 a.m., the woman succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead by a hospital physician. 

On Monday, Sept. 30, police identified her as Ana Ruth Espinoza of Glen Cove.

Police say the suspect in the homicide, Erick Efren Corado Gonzalez, age 27, of Glen Cove, was arrested on Sunday in Linden, New Jersey by Nassau County PD Homicide Squad detectives with the assistance of the Linden Police Department. 

The suspect will face an extradition hearing prior to being transported back to New York for arraignment.
